Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Istishari Arab Hospital is dedicated for children and young people who need special intensive care for serious medical or surgical conditions.

Our primary aim is to deliver the highest quality and safest care in order to gain the trust of all of our patients and families.

The unit admits patients with the entire spectrum of critical care problems and we provide all of the resources necessary to manage critical illnesses, including all modes of mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, mechanical support of the circulation and support of organ systems.

The unit has 6 fully equipped beds including 1 isolation room with a private bathroom. The unit follows latest international guidelines. They are updated regularly based on latest evidence in medicine.

Medical Services

  • PICU treats patients with a variety of different serious medical and surgical conditions that require intensive care support
  • The unit provides excellent care to critically ill children in an environment that is sensitive to the needs of the child and the family
  • The unit offers support and services for our colleagues in other specialties such as general surgery, pediatric surgery, cardiology, oncology, neurology, pediatric neurosurgery, metabolic medicine, renal, spinal surgery, respiratory, gastroenterology and endocrinology.
  • Treatment of critical injuries for children after road traffic accidents and falling down that require continuous monitoring of internal brain pressure and applying neuroprotection measures.
  • Provide mechanical ventilator support for kids who have breathing problems
  • Treating different kinds of shocks, which needs intensive resuscitation like septic and cardiogenic shocks. In addition to different severe seasonal viral illnesses

Dr. Amjad Rajab

Pediatrics and Neonatology Specialist

Dr. Amjad Rajab is a Pediatrics and Neonatology Specialist, with more than 9 years of experience. Currently he is Specialist in Pediatrics and Neonatology, Head of Pediatric Department, Head of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Head of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Istishari Arab Hospital.

Prior to joining Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah, Dr. Rajab worked at Islamic Hospital and Farah Hospital - Jordan.

Dr. Rajab graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Odessa State Medical University - Ukraine, and then he joined the specialization program in the department of Pediatrics and Neonatology at Islamic Hospital - Jordan.
