HEMATOLOGY

The department of oncology is paired with the hematology department. Hematology concerns the study and treatment of blood related malignancies and diseases, such as leukemia, sickle-cell anemia, hemophilia and lymphoma. Concerning hematology, all diseases, whether benign or malignant, including but not limited to clotting and bleeding problems, blood count issues, hereditary problems and hemochromatosis, will be professionally treated. Hematological specialists largely treat parts of the body that are directly involved with the flow of blood cells, such as the spleen, lymphoid tissues and the lymph nodes.

Our Oncologists and Hematologists focus on preventative measures, including effective screening and early diagnosis to help reduce the suffering caused by cancer and hematological diseases. It is crucial to maintain regular check-ups, as often, symptoms can be subtle and will only appear when the cancer has grown to a large size. The earlier on a cancer is diagnosed, the more likely a treatment will be effective. With cancers, such as breast and prostate, a screening can actually detect cancerous growths called polyps, which can be removed and consequently eliminate the spread altogether.

The mission of the Oncology Department is to provide excellence in cancer care through outstanding programs that integrate quality patient care, prevention of cancer, education and research. We are highly motivated to educate others, explore ways to prevent cancer and recruit and retain the best people by creating a culture that encourages, rewards and protects employees. Our priority is to assure that all those at risk for and affected by cancer have access to the highest quality care
