Nutrition Department

Nutrition Department at Istishari Arab Hospital (IAH) is one of the best-specialized departments in the region; it has been established in order to provide clinical nutrition services for inpatients and outpatients through the outpatient clinic.

Nutrition Department is led by three highly qualified, experienced dietitians who are registered at the Palestinian Ministry of Health (PMOH).

Dietitians collaborate with medical and non-medical hospital teams (physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and kitchen department) in all hospital wards (Oncology Ward, Pediatric Ward, Cardiac Ward, ICU, Surgical Ward, Postnatal Ward, Internal Ward and Orthopedic Ward) to establish and deliver the best-suited individual dietary care plan for inpatients.

The individual dietary care plan mainly include; nutritional assessment regarding patient health condition, consultation along with individual nutrition counseling education (educational sessions and education materials) for patients and companions, in addition to customized meals prepared according to patient medical conditions. Besides, a continuous follow up for discharged patients achieved through outpatient nutrition clinic.

Moreover, to insure the international food safety standards and procedures, dietitians supervise nutrition services in all stages, from item purchasing to meal preparation and serving to patient.

Medical Services

The Nutrition Department provides medical follow-up and health care, nutritional counselling of varied medical conditions, whether for hospitalized patients or outpatients through the Nutrition Clinic, which include:

  • Diabetes mellitus (type one and two)
  • Managing Blood Pressure, Hypertension
  • Lowering Elevated Cholesterol, dyslipidemia and heart conditions
  • Renal diseases
  • Liver diseases
  • Cancers and tumors
  • Oral, chewing and swallowing problems
  • Gastrointestinal disorders, such as colon disorders and Crohn’s

  • Tube feeding and Parenteral Nutrition

Clinical Dietitian Specialist

Dietitian Margaret Zayed is a registered Dietitian at the Palestinian Ministry of Health and a Registered Member at the Palestinian Dietetic Syndicate with 8 years of experience.

Currently, she is the Head of Nutrition Department at Istishari Arab Hospital. As clinical Dietitian, she gives high quality nutritional services for both inpatients and outpatients based on the updated scientific research through good evaluation, monitoring and education of patients.

Dietitian Zayed obtained her Bachelor Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Birzeit University - Ramallah, continued her specialized training at Arab Care Hospital - Ramallah, and she is in her final process in obtaining her Master Degree in Education in Health Policy and Management - Track Quality at Al-Quds University - Abu Dies.

Prior to joining Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah, Dietitian Margaret worked in different aspects in Nutrition and Dietetics. She worked as a lecturer in public health and nutrition issues, food nutrients analyzer, outpatient’s dietitian and food supplement representative.

Dietitian Zayed has many training certificates in different nutritional topics such as Breastfeeding, Food Safety, Renal Nutritional Management, Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition.
