The Department of Neurosurgery is one of the distinguished departments in the field of neurosurgery at Istishari Arab Hospital with state-of-the-art facilities including computer-assisted brain surgery, surgical microscope and MRI suite.

The experts of the department of neurosurgery work in multidisciplinary teams to develop an individualized treatment plan for each person. The team includes neurologists and neurosurgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and radiologist.

Professor Sami Hussein

Professor Sami Hussein

Consultant in Neurosciences and Neurosurgery

Professor Sami Hussein is a Consultant in Neurosciences and Neurosurgery, and holds a PhD in Neurosurgery from the University of Hannover - Germany.

Currently, Prof Hussein is the Head of Neurosurgery, Brain and Spine Department at Istishari Arab Hospital. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Scientific Committee in Neurosurgery at the Medical Council. He is also still working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine - Hannover University - Germany.

Previously, he held the position of Head of the Neurosurgery Department at Makassed Hospital - Jerusalem, Haldesheim Hospital and Hannover Hospital - both in Germany. He also supervised over 200 clinical doctoral theses in the anatomical sciences and neuroscience and contributed to the publication of numerous theoretical and scientific researches and studies that contributed to the development of neurosciences around the world in the last quarter century.

Furthermore, Prof. Hussein contributed to the development and introduction of new surgical methods of a smooth and low-complication surgical nature to treat complex cases of brain and spine tumors. He has publications in world-renowned scientific journals and books.

He founded and supervised the first Palestinian national neurosurgery specialty program in Palestine (Al-Makassed Hospital - Jerusalem).

Prof. Hussein’s personal vision is to achieve a national program in neurosurgery and to raise the value of this specialty and its various fields in our country, by recruiting cadres according to the available capabilities and developing them for the best up to the global level.
