Cardiac Surgery Department

The Department of Cardiac Surgery specializes in treating diseases of the heart by performing surgical treatment of this organ; it offers basic diagnostic to cutting-edge treatments such as Hybrid Coronary Revascularization, Complete Arterial Revascularization, Minimally Invasive and Beating Heart Surgery.

The Department also introduces Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVI) as an alternative to traditional open-heart valve replacement surgery.​​

Moreover, some of the most respected Physicians and Surgeons lead the Cardiac Surgery Department.

The Department of cardiac surgery became the referral center for aortic dissection, valve repair, Complete Arterial Revascularization and off pump surgery, beside it has become the main center for referring complex high-risk cases “dialysis patients, heart failure patients, patients with multiple valve disorders and patients with narrowing of carotid arteries”.

Dr. Nizar Awwad is a Cardiac Surgery Consultant with over 14 years of experience, currently he is the Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department at the Istishari Arab Hospital.

Prior to joining Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah, Dr. Awwad worked in the Department of Cardiac Surgery in Albertinen, the educational University Hospital in Germany.

Dr. Awwad graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Hamburg University, Germany, and then he continued his specialized training in cardiac surgery at Albertinen, the educational University Hospital - Germany.
