Dr. Moien Kanaan is a Professor of Genetics at Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah and a Professor of Molecular Genetics in the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science at Bethlehem University, Palestine.
In 1992, Dr. Kanaan established the Hereditary Research Laboratory at Bethlehem University and he joined Istishari Arab Hospital as the Director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory in 2015.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Kanaan has carried out numerous studies on genetic diseases in the Palestinian society and the contribution of the marriage of relatives in their occurrence. Many of these precise studies have been published worldwide.
Dr. Kanaan has also led a group of researchers and cooperated at the local and international levels in order to establish the scientific and technical foundations that enable the use of genetic techniques in the prevention and treatment process of preventative diseases in the Palestinian society.
Dr. Kanaan confirms that the genetic discoveries of a society shape its success in prevention and treatment when they are carried out by scientists and researchers who live and belong to that community.
Under the supervision of Dr. Kanaan, the scientific and cognitive basis of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Istishari Arab Hospital has been pushed forward with advanced capabilities, including genetic planning, selection of healthy embryos for implantation, forensic medicine, genetic cancer screening, chromosomal tests and embryo genetic tests based on blood samples from the pregnant woman and in primitive pregnancies, and other tests.
